Last night we had a huge party with 150 of the amazing volunteers who got involved in our campaign. It was fantastic to be able to thank them in person for their energy, time and efforts. Our campaign has been vibrant, energetic and about togetherness. And together is how we will stay.
We spent the evening laughing, drinking, dancing and looking ahead to the future. We talked about how we build on this, to work together, and to make sure that next time we make it over the line for you in Broxtowe.
I am so proud of our campaign, but I could not have done it alone. A few weeks ago, Anna Soubry accused Broxtowe Labour of "tokenistic twaddle" when our Women's Forum held an all women canvassing session. What Anna doesn't know is that all 5 of the core team driving this campaign were women. I couldn't have done this without their strength, their insight and their commitment. That's not tokenistic twaddle: that's feminism in action.
But last night wasn't just about the core team. It was about every single volunteer that delivered a leaflet, knocked a door, put up a poster or shared our social media posts. My team are amazing, because they are all kinds of people from all walks of life who have the same vision of the future we could have, for Broxtowe and for the country.
We've got a job to do, and we know how to do it. Together.
